Desire to read more

Desire to read more has acquired and conquered my heart more these days.  After hectic parley with DMS,  Piramal,  CDSCO for more than a week finally the license was awarded on 7/8/18, a day before the state mourned the death of Kalaigner Karunanidhi.  Even the money spent on the day including the pay order for the application was drawn from my personal account,  later re-imbursed by the company. Vijendran was kind enough to give back petty cash spending on various occasions.

After many months I had the opportunity to to visit Moore Market book stall for second hand books.  Recent literary reviews from magazines attracted me towards Japanese Novels.  I recalled my collage days when along with my friends P J Joseph and CD Krishna Kumar ventured into the Japanese Novels translated into English.  During this period a serially published novel by the Japanese writer about a secret diary of in which a super senior husband with a young and attractive wife wrote his erotic emotions with a woman he loved.  After many days of search found from the Mathrubhoomi archives that the book is 'the key '  written by Junichiro Tanizaki.

The book was ordered on line from Amazon along with another book by Gabriel Marquez '100 years of solitude '.  This book was chosen by Salman Rushdie as the book of the century.  But very dragging, and the characters confusing.   A history of a nation for 100 years and the names are repeated and we lose track as to who is who. I  think O V Vijayan wrote 'Khazakinte ithihasam ' after getting inspiration from this book or vice versa.   Though I  finished reading this book  the story is still in the wild.  The structure of writing and story telling very impressive,  to grasp the book I need to read and re-read again.
