Elephant in the cane field

I do not have begonias,  petunias or pancies in my roof top garden.  But what have been carefully grafted with attention are few types of thornful shrubs. Very recently acquired plumeria and vinca rosa, vinca alba from a roadside bush near the meatshop.

The three different types of thornful shrubs are always with full bloom of red flowers reflecting human sufferings throughout their life but makes others happy spreading bright flowers.  Wanted to know more details and searched the Google details of this type of plants - gave me an interesting insight - the plant is known as euphorbia milli or crown of thorns or Christ plant.  I have planted and re-planted these shrubs in multiple pots filling the entire row  with three different types of red flowers;  one with stems as big as arms flowers like ten rupee coins on a toothpick like stem changing the red colour to green after a number of days.  The second one like finger like stems with bright duel petals of one rupee coin size red flowers.  The third plant with stem like African American girl's hairdo, decorated with tiny red flowers.   These shrubs got its name due to the resemblance with the thorn of Christ.

Other empty pots are filled with ajwain or omam plant with sprouts of transparent green stems and leaves like lobes of ear.  On a visit to theradi acquired another costly addition,  an exotic plant plumeria with megaphone like flowers through out the season.  Ajwain plants are growing fast like girls after the age of puberty.   The fragrance emitting plants are grafted and replanted in all empty pots and vacant spaces.

There are two more additions to the family of flowers.  They are chethi or ixora coccinea botanically.  Chethi flowers are commonly used in garlands to Lord Krishna.  This pink and red flowers are grown in bunches of tiny four petals with honey attracting bees and butterflies always.

These are the flowering and non flowering plants nourished in my garden.  Watering and occasional pruning are done by me.  My wife has the problem in climbing the stairs.  The interesting story of our trip back home after visiting grandchildren in their Thoraipakkam home is recalled whenever stairs are seen.

To save money during rush hour cab travel, once we took the diverted trip upto Thiruvanmiyur by auto and then MRTS upto beach station and then share auto to Ernavur.  The staircase climb to platform resembled a mountaineering trip.  Thereafter unless it is absolutely essential to have an inspection upstairs,  the terrace and first floor house climbing by stair is strictly  avoided by Mrs Christy.

In one of the emergency inspection cum cleaning visit upstairs when I was out for shopping,  the overgrown plants of ajwain was plucked from the pots and thrown to the ground.
Seeing the littered plants in the kitchen backyard some hanging on the trees in the mid air my heart sank,  commented that a ' wild elephant has entered the cane field '.
Started planting the rooted trees in space of backyard. But all the plantings vanished in the corporation dustbin a few minutes later.

A phobia or childhood dislike to two plants  may have still existed to her.  A plant like vinca rosa (nithya kalyani) are commonly grown in waste lands and cemeteries,  so also ajwain.  But these bushes carefully planted in pots decorates even parlours and living rooms.  But her dislike to these plants still persists.  The reason why I am noting my apprehension is; a threat exist that these trees will vanish from the pots during my absence of four days to Cochin.

Yes the threat is carried out  to a limited extent by pruning the plant.
